1) Free Trial
Question
No. The BeamYourScreen free trial is non-binding and expires automatically 7 days after signing up. You do not need to cancel your free trial account. No credit card is required.

2) Getting Started
Question
You specify the username and password by either when signing up for a free trial or purchasing a license in our shop. You then have to enter the username and password in the BeamYourScreen software by clicking on the B icon in your system tray and selecting "Settings". Then you are ready to start your first BeamYourScreen session.

If you don’t have a session ID, please contact the organizer of the BeamYourScreen session. If you are the session organizer, you need to download and install the connection program for organizers, click on the B icon, and select "Start Session". The first time you start a session, you will be asked to enter your username and organizer password. After a successful session startup opens a Session Information window, the session number is displayed there. If you don't have a username, register for a trial account or purchase a license. Upon starting a session, the BeamYourScreen Session Info window will appear containing the unique 9-digit session ID.

Your participants need a computer with a Windows™ operating system and an Internet connection. Your computer must have either Microsoft Windows™ 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista. For optimal performance the minimum system requirements are Pentium 500 MHz CPU and 128 MB RAM. Apart from this there are no further system requirements.
Question
No. Participants never install software. They only download the connection program from the BeamYourScreen website and execute it in a temporary folder. There is no need for them to install the BeamYourScreen software. Alternatively, participants can login to your session using the HTML Viewer. In this case, they do not even have to download the connection program. Instead they simply view your PC screen through a website.

In order to provide detailed information for our support to find the reason and solution, please create a .log file of your attempts to start BeamYourScreen. To do so, please click on the B icon in your system tray, then “Settings”, and then select the “Support” Tab. Right click on the B icon in the Support Tab, and after that a hidden box will appear: “Enable Logging”. By ticking this box, a .log file will then be created the next time you attempt to start a BeamYourScreen session. The .log file will be created and saved in the same folder where BeamYourScreen is saved. For your participant it might be necessary to save the BeamYourScreen connection program first, run it, exit the login window, and then follow the steps above. After that please send the .log file with a short description to support@BeamYourScreen.com
Question
This happens when a user starts a session from their computer and then joins from the same computer. This is NOT the idea of screen sharing with BeamYourScreen. Instead you should be sharing screens between two computers. To start a BeamYourScreen session and share screens with others, follow these steps: 1. Start a session and get the session ID 2. Inform a friend on another computer of the session ID 3. Let the friend join your session by going to http://beam123.com. On this page, they can enter the session ID and click “Join Session”. 4. Screen sharing then begins between the two computers.

BeamYourScreen usually starts when your computer starts up. You can change this by clicking on the B icon (when there is no session currently running), go to Settings and uncheck the option "Load BeamYourScreen at startup", which can be found under the Account tab.

Transferring to a new computer is really easy. Please click the following Link to download the software and confirm twice by clicking on run. After the quick installation, the B icon will appear in your system tray in the lower right corner of your screen. Click on the B icon, select Start Session and enter your BeamYourScreen username and organizer password. Click Ok and the session will begin. Note that you only need to enter your username and password for this first time. Next time when you click on Start Session, the session will begin automatically.
Question
The setup of a permanent name and session ID for the participants to join from is very simple. Please download the connection program for participants and save it to your desktop. Rename the file in the following format: BeamYourScreen_SessionID_ParticipantName__.exe. If your session also has a password, just add it between the double underscores in the .exe filename. You can send the file to your participants or integrate it on your website. When a participant starts this .exe application, they will automatically join your session without having to manually enter the session ID.
3) Privacy & Security
Question
Yes. We use 256-bit AES end-to-end encryption to encrypt all screen data transmitted by BeamYourScreen. You will find more information on the BeamYourScreen security in our Security Description (PDF).
Question
Yes. You can individually set a session password for each session in the BeamYourScreen software, under "Settings" > "Start Options" > "Use a session password". You will find more information on security in our Security Description (PDF).

No. The remote control can only be activated upon the explicit approval of the participant. No one can access a PC without the respective user knowing it.
4) Licensing

5) Billing & Payment

Log on to MyAccount with your username and your administrator password. In MyAccount, you can change your credit card details, bank account information and billing address.

Yes, you will automatically receive an invoice upon completing the purchase of your license. The invoice will be sent to you as PDF by email. Please add the email address billing@beamyourscreen.com to your address book. Otherwise the invoice might get dumped in the spam folder.

6) Technology
Question
Yes. When you start or join a session, BeamYourScreen establishes one or several secure connections with a BeamYourScreen server. BeamYourScreen employs intelligent tunneling technology, using ports that are already open in your firewall and proxy server. BeamYourScreen works with your existing network configuration. The proxy server information is automatically detected or can be manually specified in the software settings. If you have a personal firewall installed on your PC, you might be asked to allow the BeamYourScreen software to connect to a BeamYourScreen server.

BeamYourScreen uses port 443 (SSL) and port 80 (http). Since those ports are open by default in most cases, you do not need to change the settings of your network and/or firewall.

With the integration of the session login into your corporate website, your session participant can log on to your BeamYourScreen session through your own corporate website. As a result your participants do not have to go through the BeamYourScreen website. If you wish to integrate the session login into your corporate website, you can download a small piece of HTML code free of charge here. Integrating the session login into your corporate website takes a matter of minutes.

The HTML Viewer is an advanced and alternative connection method for your guests. With the standard login, your participants have to download a small connection program (with no installation). However when using the HTML Viewer there are no downloads required. Rather, your participants are able to see your screen simply as a website from within their Internet browser. The HTML Viewer has been developed specifically for Online Presentations and optimized for this use case. Please note that the HTML Viewer does not support all available BeamYourScreen features such as change of presenter and remote control. To join a session via the HTML viewer, ask your guests to go to http://www.JoinSession.info.

The integration of participant name and session id is very simple. Please download the connection program for participants from http://www.BeamYourScreen.com/EN/download/BeamYourScreen.exe and save it on the desktop for example. Rename the file in the following format: BeamYourScreen_SessionID_ParticipantName__.exe. If your session has password, just put it between the double underscores. You can send the file to your participants or integrate it on your website so they can download it. When the participant starts this application, he will join automatically your session.
7) Using BeamYourScreen

In MyAccount, you will find detailed information regarding your BeamYourScreen license, the statistics of your BeamYourScreen sessions and you can purchase additional licenses. In addition, you can change your passwords and account, billing and payment information.

If you forget your password but you still know your username, you can retrieve your password by email. Please click here to retrieve your passwords. If you forget both your password and your username, please send us an email to support@beamyourscreen.com or give us a call.

The organizer password is the password you need to start BeamYourScreen sessions. You have to enter the organizer password in the BeamYourScreen software under "Settings". The administrator password is the password you need to log in to MyAccount. When you register for a free trial or purchase a license, both passwords are the same. You can change both passwords in MyAccount. If you purchase a Shared User License, we recommend setting different passwords for the organizer password and for the administrator password. Only the BeamYourScreen account holder should know the administrator password. The organizer password has to be available to every user who is allowed to start BeamYourScreen sessions.

Log on to MyAccount with your username and your administrator password. Click "Passwords" in the menu and change the organizer password and/or the administrator password respectively. Do not forget to save your changes before you exit MyAccount.

Please download the connection program for organizers from http://www.beamyourscreen.com/EN/product/downloads.aspx. After installing the BeamYourScreen software, click on the B icon which appear in the lower right corner of your desktop and then "Start session". When you are starting your first session you will be prompted to enter your username and password.

Windows XP often tries to hide icons. If you run Windows XP, make sure the B icon stays visible by doing the following. Run the BeamYourScreen software, then right-click a blank spot on the Windows Taskbar and choose Properties. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box opens. Click Customize in the lower right corner, which opens another window. Locate the line with the B icon, click its entry in the Behavior column, choose “Always” show and click OK.

BeamYourScreen session records are stored by default in My Documents\BeamYourScreen\Records. Of course you can change the default location by clicking the B icon, Settings, Start options, as last item you will see "Saved recording location".

Please enter your username and organizer password again in the BeamYourScreen software under "Settings". Both username and password are case sensitive. If you copy the username or password make sure you don’t copy any blanks. Please make sure that you enter the organizer password for starting a session and not the administrator password. If you still encounter difficulties starting a session please send us an email at support@beamyourscreen.com.

If you have not received the email with the confirmation link, please check your spam filter and add team@beamyourscreen.com to your address book. Please check again whether you used the correct email address when signing up for BeamYourScreen. In order to retrieve the email with the confirmation link, log on to MyAccount using the username and the administrator password you chose when signing up. The email with the confirmation link will be automatically resent. In case you still don’t receive the email with the confirmation link send us an email at support@beamyourscreen.com or call us.

If you are unable to start or join sessions, a personal firewall might be blocking BeamYourScreen. We prepared guidelines for several personal firewall products that explain how you can allow BeamYourScreen to connect to the Internet: AVG 8, GDATA, Windows, Norton Internet Security 2008, Zone Alarm 7.

Yes. You can install BeamYourScreen for Mac on a Intel Mac (not PowerPC) with Mac OS X 10.3.0 or higher.

If this occurs, it is because the participant on the Mac has joined the session through the HTML Viewer. The participant can join in two ways - through the Mac application (a .dmg file), or via the pure presentation mode through the HTML Viewer. When the participant visits the joinsession.com page to join the session, they can choose their preferred way of joining. If the participant clicks on the orange button Download then it is possible to switch presenter and enable remote control during the session. On the other hand, when the participant enters the session ID along with their name and clicks the “Join” button on the joinsession.com webpage, they will join the session via the HTML Viewer and therefore Switch Presenter and Remote Control will not be possible.

To remove this message, you need to disable "Show the participant list", which can be found by clicking on the B icon (before you start a session) then Settings, then Start Options. Also you should disable the BeamYourScreen window under Application selection. When both of these options are disabled, your participants will no longer see who attends your session.

This phenomenon is related to the hardware acceleration of your PC, to avoid the issue please turn off the hardware acceleration. Please right click on an empty spot on your desktop, then select properties and after that the tab settings. If the regular uninstall process is not working please right click on the BeamYourScreen shortcut on your desktop and select properties. Here you will find the file location. Please navigate to the named file location, start the remover.exe (or uninstall.exe), and this will uninstall BeamYourScreen completely.

Sometimes the System Tray “swallows” icons (not only BeamYourScreen, also others). In order to get it back on again you first need to open the task manager (Ctrl and old and Delete or right click on an empty spot next to the clock) and then end the BeamYourScreen-Host process under the Processes tab. Then you can start BeamYourScreen again and the icon will re-appear.

Perhaps this is related to the speed of your Internet connection. To test the available bandwidth, please go to http://www.speedtest.net/. You will see a map - please cklick on the yellow star in the center of the map. Your transfer rate will then be determined. Note that this may take a moment. Following the test, the available bandwidth (Up- and Download speed) will be shown. We suggest an upload of 1 MB/s to ensure a smooth and fast transmission.

When PowerPoint presentation is started and you don´t show new applications then the full screen presentation is hidden as full screen is started as a new application. To show your presentation in full screen mode, you need to activate "Show new applications", which can be found by clicking on the B icon, then "Application selection"and then tick the box "Show new applications".

Some security settings of Windows7 can cause that the file transfer during a BeamYourScreen session does not work. The problem can be solved if the participant saves the connection program (e. g. on the desktop), then right clicks on the icon and then selects "Run as administrator". The file transfer is working now.

In order to cancel your subscription, send us an email at billing@beamyourscreen.com.Since you paid at the beginning of the subscription period, you can use BeamYourScreen until the end of the subscription period. After this, the subscription will end instead of renewing automatically.
